A tubal reversal or tubal ligation reversal is a procedure in which the fallopian tubes are reconnected and reopened in women who previously had their tubes surgically closed through tubal ligation (tubes tied).
The tubal reversal procedure is an extremely delicate and precise process. In most cases, this surgery can only be performed once. The staff at the Center for Reproductive Medicine of New Mexico feels that it is extremely important that you choose your surgeon wisely, thereby giving yourself the best chance of conceiving a child.
Tubal ligation has become a very popular method of contraception for women today. The tubes may have been cut, cauterized (burned) tied, or a fallopian ring may have been used to close your tubes. Whichever the case, statistics are favorable that a successful reversal can be accomplished.
Whatever the cause or reason for the tubal ligation, a tubal reversal affords nearly every woman the opportunity to change her mind. A tubal reversal can restore the woman’s fallopian tubes to normal function. A tubal reversal can enable a woman to normally conceive, carry and deliver her own baby.
Am I a candidate for Tubal Reversal?
In most cases you are! Any woman who has had her tubes surgically closed is a candidate for a Tubal Reversal. Initial tests by the staff at the Center for Reproductive Medicine of New Mexico will be necessary. It is beneficial to obtain a copy of the tubal ligation operative report from the physician that performed the procedure. The report will include the technique that was used to close the tubes, and may help minimize any pre-testing
Please contact the Center for Reproductive Medicine of New Mexico for more information on this process and to set up an initial exam.
